Honda probably isn’t the first brand you think of when someone mentions pickup trucks. Maybe, just maybe, it should be though. Have you seen the 2017 Honda Ridgeline? Since releasing the all-new truck in June of 2016, the accolades have been stacking up around it.

The Ridgeline receives honors

In January, the Ridgeline was heralded as the North American Truck of the Year during the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The more traditional names in pickup trucks were left behind while the Ridgeline took its metaphorical victory lap.

According to the North American Car of the Year, the awards honor “excellence in innovation, design, safety, performance, technology, driver satisfaction, and value.” Professional automotive journalists from the United States and Canada have been awarding this honor since 1994.

The Ridgeline didn’t stop after impressing the journalists though; it secured a 2017 Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety also known as the IIHS. When equipped with the optional front crash prevention system and specific headlights, the Ridgeline is the only pickup to be selected by the IIHS.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration also took notice of the Honda pickup. In fact, the Ridgeline made headlines as the only pickup in the U.S. to receive a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Rating, when equipped with the same safety systems as required by the IIHS rating.

The Ridgeline steps out in front of the competition with safety options and continues to increase the lead with their resale value. In addition to being safe, Kelley Blue Book designates the Ridgeline as a 2017 Best Resale Value vehicle.

Ridgeline special features

So what makes the Ridgeline so special? Not only is the 2017 Ridgeline packed with safety features, it also has optional six trim packages that allow you to choose which accessories are must-haves.

The standard list of safety features includes Advanced Compatibility Engineering on its body structure, advanced front airbags, side curtain airbags, front side airbags, anti-lock brakes, and traction control.

In the high-end trim packages, the Honda Sensing™ technology includes adaptive cruise control, Collision Mitigation Braking ™, Road Departure Mitigation, and Lane Keeping Assist. Each system gives the driver more control over the obstacles along the road.

Once you are comfortable with your level of safety, you can add accessories for comfort and convenience. All packages come standard with the innovative design that the Ridgeline is known for, including the dual-action tailgate and In-Bed Trunk®.

The dual-action tailgate opens both as a standard tailgate swinging up and down and, as only the Ridgeline does, with a hinge on the left side allowing the right side to swing forward as a regular door.

A trunk is something you expect to give up when buying a pickup, but when you buy the Ridgeline you can expect more. The In-Bed Trunk® packs 7.3 cubic feet of space into a compartment inside the bed of the pickup. The trunk includes a drain plug, allowing the compartment to serve as an ice chest, as well as grocery bag hooks and guides for cargo dividers.

Depending on the trim package you select you can also enjoy a power sliding rear window, leather seats, a moonroof, LED truck bed lights, and heated mirrors. Your remote entry can be programmable, and you can enjoy a truck-bed power outlet.
